Educator Workshop: Philippine-American War and USS Olympia

Tuesday, March 3rd from 5 PM to 8 PM

Join Independence Seaport Museum, network with fellow educators while gaining new skills and content, and get professional development hours/credit!

In this workshop, educators will focus on our newest exhibit onboard USS Olympia, “The Philippine American War (1899-1902): Complex Symbols & Conflicting Relationships.”

Workshop will rely on the following format:

  • Introductions and Overview
  • Objectives, Evaluation, and Admin
  • Context for the USS Olympia and the Philippine American War
  • Skills and Framework: war, the classroom, and big conversations through place and people  
  • Tour of exhibit and Olympia  
  • Classroom Application Workshop
  • Review
  • Wrap-up and Evaluation

Registration for this workshop includes access to the materials, Act 48 credit for PA teachers, and light dinner. These workshops take place after public hours, so educators get exclusive access to resources and museum areas!
